CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)

Course Overview
A construction worker must have completed general construction induction training (commonly known as the “White Card”) before being permitted to commence work on a construction site. This is a mandatory requirement across Australia. If you have never worked in the construction industry before or you have lost your White Card; then this is the course for you. CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely In The Construction Industry course will help introduce you to or serve as a reminder of the current health and safety legislative requirements, personal awareness, and the basic principles of risk management for working in the construction industry in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

● 18 years of age or over
● Students need to have either successfully finished Australian Year 12 or an equivalent level of
education, or hold a Certificate IV or a higher qualification from an Australian educational
institution
● Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident.
● Have a valid Driver’s Licence, Photo Card
● Meet prescribed Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements.
● Applicants should have basic knowledge of computer including MS Office skills (Word, Excel
and Power Point).
● Bring your own device (BYOD)-All learners are expected to bring their own laptop with the
Windows 7 operating system or higher. The College premises are equipped with high-speed
Wi-Fi for the students’ usage.
● Pre-Training Review- All prospective students (the candidates) are interviewed through
Phone or zoom and will have the course explained to them by a Student Services Officer. The
purpose of this interview is to ensure the candidate understands the commitment of signing
up to the course, entry requirements, course outcomes, and what is expected of the student
during their studies with SDG College. The review also aims to identify training needs
through questions on previous education or training, relevance of the courses to learner and
relevant experience

All students will complete a language literacy and numeracy assessment upon enrolment to
determine their learning support needs. All students will be provided with a range of learning
support options and resources to help you achieve competency.
Where additional support needs have been identified an Individual Support Plan will be developed
which may include:
● Mentoring from trainers
● Additional classes, tutorials, and workshops
● Computer and technology support
● Referral to external support services
● Reasonable adjustment to assessments


Provision of additional support services will be provided where necessary to enable students to
participate in the same way as any other person regardless of whether support services have been
required.

Assessment of this unit consists of three assessment tasks:
● Answering A Series of Multiple Choice and Short Answer Written Questions.
● Answering A Series of Short Answer Oral Questions

● Observation Of Learners Demonstrating Correct Fitting of Personal Protective
Equipment
● (PPE).
You will be required to complete assessments in class.

It provides a pathway to further learning and work in various business roles and settings. Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:
